Privacy Policy

Seen is a free guide to what's on in Riyadh: events, offers and guides. It is an Elden Studios product. You don't need an account to use it, and we collect as little as we can. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Elden Studios (Commercial Registration 7051824170, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, short address RGDA3915) is responsible for your personal data in Seen. Contact us at bazerbashi@elden-studios.com.
What we collect
Usage analytics. When you use the app, it records which screens you open and what you do there: the events, offers and guides you open, save, mark Going, set or cancel a reminder for, add to your calendar, share or get directions to; the guides you follow and when you tick a step (which guide, not which step); links you open outside the app; when you allow location or switch the weekend reminder on or off; your answer when you're asked to allow notifications; when you finish or skip the introduction; that you asked Ask Seen a question (how many, never what you asked); and which kind of notification you opened. On the first open, or when a Seen link opens the app, it also records that a link opened it and the sharing channel named in the link (such as WhatsApp). Each record carries the app version, your device platform (iOS or Android), your language and the time. These records are tied to a random identifier created on your phone when you first open the app. It is not your name, phone number or advertising ID, and we can't use it to find out who you are.
Error reports. If the app hits an error, it sends us a short technical report (the error message and its technical trace, the screen, the app version and the same random identifier) so we can fix it.
Notifications. If you turn on "News & offers", we store your device's push token, your language and the random identifier so we can send you notifications. If you turn on the Thursday reminder, we store the same, so we can send you each weekend issue; if our servers can't be reached when you turn it on, your phone reminds you at 4 PM on Thursdays instead until they can. If you follow a guide and allow notifications, we store the same and the guides you follow, so we can tell you on Thursday when one has new picks. If you save an event and allow notifications, we store the same and the events you saved, so we can tell you when one's date, time or place changes. If you send a plan or vote to the group and allow notifications, we store the same with it, so we can tell you when the first friend answers. Event reminders, the note that a saved event is ending soon, the «رحت؟» ("Did you go?") question the morning after an event you marked Going, and the monthly recap of the places you went are scheduled on your phone and are not sent through our servers.
Reports. If you use "Is this still right?" on an event or offer, we store your report (the item, the reason, any note you write) with the random identifier, so we can fix the listing. "Delete my data" deletes your reports too.
Plans and votes you send to a group. When you use "Send to the group", we store what you send (the events and offers, the question and closing time of a vote, and the name you choose to add, if any) with the random identifier, so your friends can open it on seen-sa.app. Anyone with the link can see it. The app lists the ones you sent, with your friends' answers, on your phone. When friends answer, we store the name they type and their answer, with that page's random number from the cookie described below, so they can change it.
Events organisers send us. If you send your event from seen-sa.app/submit-event, we store its link, your name, your email and any note you write, so we can review the event and contact you about it. Our editors' assistant (Anthropic's Claude, see below) reads the event's page and your note to draft the listing; your name and email aren't sent to it. To stop spam, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the form is sent by a person, and we count how many events are sent from each network as a code that changes every day, never your IP address.
Our website. When you open a shared Seen link on seen-sa.app, we count the visit: which page, its language and the sharing channel named in the link (such as WhatsApp). Each visit gets a new random number, and counting uses no cookies and stores no IP address, so visits can't be linked to each other or to you. Link-preview robots aren't counted. When you tap an App Store button on seen-sa.app, we count the tap the same way: which page or sharing channel the install is credited to, and its language. When you answer a shared plan or vote, that page sets one cookie holding a random number, only for that plan or vote, so you can change your answer later. It isn't used for anything else.
Network data. Like any online service, our hosting providers see your IP address when the app loads content. It is used for security and is kept only in short-lived server logs. The Business tab loads open startup programs from One.O (one.elden.sa), Elden Studios' own directory, which sees your IP address the same way; the app sends it nothing else.
Ask Seen (AI)
Ask Seen plans outings and answers business questions from Seen's listings. It is optional: the first time you open it, we ask your permission, and nothing is sent until you agree.
When you ask, your question, the earlier messages of today's chat, your language and today's prayer times go to our server. If you snap a poster or a screenshot (Snap to Seen), that photo goes with the question, made smaller on your phone first. If you've allowed location, your approximate location (to about 1 km) goes too, so it can suggest places near you. Our server adds Seen's current listings and Riyadh's weather forecast and sends it all to Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI model, which writes the answer.
Anthropic processes this only to write the answer. Under its commercial terms it doesn't use it to train its models, and keeps it only for a limited time for safety checks.
Seen doesn't keep your questions, photos or answers on its servers. Today's chat stays on your phone, with a small copy of any photo you shared. To limit how many questions can be asked each day, our server keeps a daily count for your random identifier and for your network (as a code that changes every day, never your IP address). If you report an answer, the question and the answer are kept with your report so we can review it. If a photo shows something that isn't on Seen and you save it, its details (the name, place, day and time, never the photo) are sent to us as a suggestion, with the random identifier; "Delete my data" deletes it.
Your Riyadh (the events you said you went to) stays on your phone. With this same permission, when you share a month's or a year's Your Riyadh Story, a summary of that period goes through our server to Anthropic so Claude can name it: how many outings, of which kinds, at what times of day and how many on weekends. Never their names, places or dates. Our server keeps only a daily count for your random identifier, to limit how often this can be asked.
You can withdraw your permission at any time in More → "Ask Seen (AI)".
What stays on your phone
Some features work entirely on your device and never reach us:
- Your location, which is used to show distances and what's nearest to you. It only leaves your phone, rounded to about 1 km, with a question you ask Ask Seen (see above), and we don't store it.
- Your saved items, plans and reminders (unless you send a plan or vote to a group).
- Events you add to your calendar. We only write the event you choose; we never read your calendar.
What we don't do
- The app doesn't ask for your email, phone number or ID, and we don't take payments. The only names we store are one you choose to type on a shared plan or vote, and an organiser's name and email when they send us an event.
- We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites, and the app contains no advertising or tracking SDKs.
Why we use it
- Usage analytics and error reports help us understand which features people use and fix problems. We rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving Seen, and you can switch this off at any time in More.
- Notifications are sent only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in More or in your phone's settings.
- Ask Seen sends your questions to Anthropic only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in More.
- An organiser's name, email and note are used only to handle the event they sent us, which they ask us to do by sending it. To have them deleted sooner, email us.
How long we keep it
- Usage analytics: 13 months, then deleted automatically.
- Error reports: 90 days.
- Reports, reported Ask Seen answers and suggestions: 180 days, then deleted automatically.
- Push tokens, the guides you follow and the events you save: while "News & offers" or the Thursday reminder is on, you follow a guide or save an event, or a plan or vote you sent is waiting for its first answer. Once you turn both off and follow and save nothing, or the token stops working, it stops being used and is deleted within 90 days. "Delete my data" deletes it straight away.
- Shared plans and votes, with the names and answers on them: 7 days after the plan's last day or after the vote closes.
- Ask Seen's daily counts, and the daily counts of events sent from the website: 7 days.
- An organiser's name, email and note: 90 days after we decide on the event they sent, or 180 days after they sent it if it was never decided.
Who processes it, and where
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf and under contract:
- Supabase, our database and hosting provider, which stores data in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Expo, which delivers push notifications from the United States, through Apple and Google's notification services.
- Cloudflare, which serves our website and checks that the event form is sent by a person (Turnstile).
- Anthropic, which writes Ask Seen's answers with its Claude AI model, and helps our editors draft listings from event pages and organisers' notes, from the United States.
Because these providers are outside the Kingdom, your data is transferred abroad. We do this in line with the Personal Data Protection Law and its regulations on transfers outside the Kingdom.
Your rights and choices
You have the right to know what we hold about you, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, and to withdraw your consent.
- More → "Usage analytics" stops the app from sending analytics and error reports.
- More → "Delete my data" deletes the analytics, error reports, push token, reports, and plans and votes you sent from your phone, and gives the app a new random identifier.
- For anything else, email bazerbashi@elden-studios.com. We reply within 30 days.
If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA).
Links to other services
Events and offers in Seen link to their organisers and venues, such as ticketing sites and hotel pages. Those services have their own privacy policies.
Children
Seen is a general audience guide with no accounts. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this policy and the date at the top. Important changes will also be shown in the app.
